Choosing the Right Litter Box for Your Cat

Save your money. [...]. I am a litter box rehabilitation specialist and though I like the idea of the breeze, the design of this product is troublesome to me. Any pelleted pet litters may lead your cat to potty outside of the box, so please hang on to your old litter and box if you do transition to the breeze. Also, make sure your cats is urinating AND defecating in the Breeze for at least a week before you remove your old box.
The whole point of this contraption is to reduce odors and it fails terribly. Odor is a bigger problem when you use this box. Those who say otherwise must have stuffy noses. The Breeze pads (which are expensive even when you buy them in bulk) are supposed to be “odor free”. They must mean that they are odor free before the urine hits them because there is a strong odor after a single urination onto the pad. For $[...] each, the pads should actually control odor. It would be easy and inexpensive for the manufacturer to add an effective odor controlling ingredient to the pad, but they have failed to do this.
As for the Breeze pellets, when your cat covers his feces, it is not very well coated and when you scoop some of the pellets that fall back into the box will be contaminated with poop. Fecal odor will be much more noticeable if you are transitioning from a fine clumping litter to the breeze. Perhaps Purina want to ensure that you buy more of the pellets and pads by making them inneficient. I don’t agree with the way this product is marketed and think the company is very dishonest.
Most cats prefer a fine, dense substrate (like sand) to urinate and defecate in. The large Breeze pellets are disliked by most cats. Forcing a cat to use a litter he does not prefer is asking for trouble. Urinating outside of the box is the leading behavior problem of house cats and a leading cause of kitty euthanasia. If box odors were significantly reduced by this system, I could see the reason for increasing the chance of problem behaviors. However, since my experience has been an increase in box odors, I absolutely cannot recommend this product. Keep in mind that once a cat urinates outside the box, it will likely keep urinating in the newly assigned area. Switching back to a box they used before with litter they used to prefer, may not cure the problem. Unless your cat absolutely loves the Breeze Pellets and you are OK with the odors, It’s best to just stick with Pine or clumping litter (read warning below).
Fine vs Pine vs Breeze- Unfortunately, clumping clay litters may be linked to feline asthma and can contribute to sinus infections in people that clean the boxes. Other clumping litters such as Swheat Scoop, Feline Pine Clumping, and World’s Best, are good alternatives but they will track more and stick to the scoop and box a bit. If a cat prefers a fine substrate, deal with the tracking and sticking- it’s better than having a cat who dislikes his box. I prefer pine pellets for reduced tracking, if the cat will use them. Pine pellets will turn into sawdust and stick to the feces better than Breeze pellets (which never break down). With pine pellets you eliminate the urine odor completely and fecal odor is reduced. Pine litter is very affordable $[...] per month, per cat. With a Breeze system you are likely going to spend $[...] per month on pellets and pads. Feline Pine pellets and no-clay clumping litters are easier to transport and carry than clay litters.
If you want to control all cat odors and have a very healthy cat, consider a diet change for your kitty. You can reduce fecal odor significantly with raw diets. These are very easy to obtain at local pet stores. The larger pet store chains do not carry raw diets typically. Raw diets help with increased health, decreased fecal odor, decreased fleas and sometimes decreased shedding (depending on which ingredients you choose).
Good luck finding the perfect litter setup.[...]

My 14 year old cat began “forgetting” his litterbox training in recent months. I realized he was probably trying to tell us that something was wrong and so off to the vet we go – to find out that he is both diabetic and has hyperthyroidism. Both conditions lead to an increase in urine and so even once we found out what was going on – and trying to get it under control with medication, he still keeping urinating on the floor next to his litterbox. We tried so many different arrangements in an attempt to get him using the litterbox again, but he would refuse unless we cleaned it immediately after each use, which was impossible to do since he pees in large quantities all day long!
I discovered the Tidy Cat Breeze system in the pet store and was so desperate, I was willing to wager $38 on a completely new system. I thought it might work since there would never be urine (clumps or otherwise) in the litterbox after he used it. And voila! It worked! I was only partially dismayed by the price of the pellets and the pads to keep up after it. After all, even though they say the pad can last up to a week, our cat goes through a pad in just 2 days…
I found this subscription service through amazon and with the discount and the free shipping, the deal is unbeatable. We’ve since purchased a second litterbox system for the other floor in our home and we’ve had no more “accidents” from our extremely picky, elderly kitty! Hooray!
As for the pad itself, as long as it’s rotated (or replaced) before it’s oversaturated, it completely retains the urine without mess and completely without odor as far as I can tell. For our cat, I stir the pellets around once per day (since he urinates in the exact same spot each time) and that keeps them clean for at least a full month. I remove poop as soon as I discover it in the box and so no mess there either.

Having gone through the most simple manual and advanced electric litter systems with all kinds of litter, I find this one with its separation of solid and liquid waste to be the easiest, least smelly and least messy. Yes, my cat still manages some amount of spillage but that is quickly cleaned up.
Some reviewers complained about not being able to find the pads in the local store, but that’s where these big refill packages at amazon come in handy. I get a whole bunch of pads and pellets for a great price with free shipping and am set for a few months.
All in all, I’m very happy, highly recommended.

I have had cats for 30 years and tried all different products, even the electronic litter pans. This is by far the best product I have ever used. Its simple and extremely clean and without odor.

I have used many different types of litter boxes from the simple to the automatic. They all have smelly in common.
Once I tried the Breeze, I don’t see me using another one. It doesn’t seem to be very popular at least in my neighborhood because I had trouble finding the Litter pads.
The pads make the difference, they are what makes the box the best. The pads absorb the urine which I know is the reason for the smell in other boxes. Without the urine to keep it damp, the stool dries up and doesn’t leave much odor.
I know this is really a review of the Breeze box, for which the pad is only one aspect. Can’t really talk about one without the other.
I love the fact that I could get the multiple (10 package) at one place.
