The general rule for fancy goldfish is 20 gallons for one, then an additional 10 gallons for every other goldfish. This does not apply to common goldfish or comets, as they can grow over a foot long.
If you are planning on getting black moors, you should be careful. Black moors have very sensitive eyes, and you shouldnt plant or decorate your tank with anything sharp or pointed. I’d recommend silk fake plants. They wont die, and they wont hurt your black moor.
Also with feeding the black moors, they have poor vision, and generally spend a lot of time foraging on the bottom of the tank. With my black moor I get a pinch of flakes, wet them and then let them sink over my black moor. That way he knows they are there. Also, black moors should only be kept with other telescopic eyed goldfish. Fish like fantails and calicos are too quick for them at feeding time, and the moors may end up starving to death.
But, contrary to other beliefs, fish do NOT simply grow to the size the tank will accomodate. This is a common misconception, because while the fish do stop growing on the outside, they are still growing on the inside, and will eventually die because of stunted growth.
Sorry for rambling, hope this helped! Enjoy your new black moors, they are adorable!
For fancy goldfish, you need 20 gallons for the first, and 10 gallons a goldfish after that. That means two will need a 30 gallon tank. Also, if you keep a goldfish in a small tank like a 3 gallon tank, it will live a shorter life and will be very uncomfortable when it grows bigger( they grow to 6 inches). The ammonia will also have a better chance of killing the fish.
Hope this helps!!!
I know everyone is saying that 20 gallons for one goldfish is the right size…but i remember as a little kid having goldfish in a glass bowl and they lived forever in that thing!
I currently have two fancy tailed goldfish in a 3 gallon tank and they are fine, it seems very empty.
I was told by the pet store people that the goldfish wont grow large if they are kepy in smaller tanks. They simply will grow until they are just right for the tank and they will just not grow bigger unless they are kept in a bigger tank. This is what I was told by pet store employees.
the general goldfish gets over 3 feet and u would have to have over a 200 gallon to house one
goldfish are the most messy fish u can get
the secreet high amounts of ammonia and tear up fake and real plants, tend to bully as the get bigger, the poo a lot and dirty up the water
i would not suggest getting goldfish
dont listen to everyone that said u can get a 10 gallon they dont know what there talking about
i breed fish and currently have 7 tanks 6 freshwater and 1 saltwater

For fancy goldfish you need 20 gallons for the first one, and then 10 gallons each for additional goldfish.
If you can’t do a 55, then maybe a 30 which would allow you to have the 2 and a few others as well
You need 20-30 gallon fish tank for 1
